ASTP is proud to have some really outstanding sunless business owners who make up our membership base. Each week, we feature one of our members so you can get to know them and their business.
We are continuing by introducing you to our 2018 Sunless Summit planning committee.
Meet your next Sunless Summit planning committee member...Ashley Myers.
Type of Biz: Mobile, Home Studio
Amount of Time in Biz: In business 6 years, spraying for 3 years.
Biz Social Media Links:
Solution(s) I Love: Norvell
Tools of the Trade (equipment preference): I love my Z3000 from Norvell, my 1st HVLP machine was the M1000, it is now my backup.
What I Wear (solution brand and % used to spray YOU): I love Legend on my skin, but to maintain my color I use self tanning products specifically Perfection Mousse by Dancing With The Stars, by Norvell.
I chose to be an airbrush tanner because: I am a natural artist and giver. Performing a service and transforming beautiful bodies and minds is what I was meant to do.
If I weren't an airbrush tanner I would be: At a loss. I've worked numerous professions prior to finding spray tanning. I'm capable of anything and multifaceted, but spray tanning has all my passion!
My most embarrassing moment as a business owner: I have to say I am pretty thankful as I have not endured too much weirdness. My moment would be getting a call from a client that her husband used her self tanning mousse in his grey hair mistaking it for hair mousse. That was a fun phone call!
Favorite social media outlet: Instagram & Facebook
The one thing I could not live without for my biz: My network. Seriously, when I started out I answered all my own questions and was going at it alone for years, ASTP was developed and I learned about forums online. Now I have friends in the sunless tanning industry all over the country!
The part of owning my own business I am not very good at: The tech savvy part! Websites will be the death of me!
The one thing I wish I knew when I started my business: How long people were still going to ask me "but doesn't it turn you orange" I figured I would answer that question a few times but years later we are still defying the beauty world and becoming more recognized as an actual beauty and skin regimen not an "orange spray tan".
Where I plan to be in five years: I am happy to say as a Norvell Salon Specialist, I look forward to traveling and training more, while growing and expanding my sunless business, training other techs and salons so I can continue to educate!
Business owners who inspire me: I look up to every single owner who has ever stepped out and done their thing! Beginning...20 years in...it does not matter. We all want the same things and at the end of the day we are one industry becoming united.
Quote I love: "People are the prettiest when they talk about something they really love with passion in their eyes" -k.v.h.
When I’m not working, I love to: Spend time with my daughter & family. I have a lot of hobbies and keep fairly busy in all aspects of life.
My favorite thing about owning my own business: My freedom. To work as hard and as long as I want with out having to watch a clock or get yelled at for overtime.
The thing I dislike most about owning my own business: Sometimes it's lonely. I own and operate by myself. But I have a huge network of boss babes from all over the country that make me feel connected!
If I could share some wisdom with someone just getting started in this biz it would be: Don't be afraid to give away free tans! Lure those clients in and never give up!
