ASTP is proud to have some really outstanding sunless business owners who make up our membership base. Each week, we feature one of our members so you can get to know them and their business.
We chose to begin our feature series by introducing you to our 2018 Sunless Summit planning committee.
We're happy to intoduce you to our next planning committee member...meet Tiffany Peck.
Type of Biz: Mobile
Amount of Time in Biz: This is my 6th year!
Full-Time or Part-Time?: Part-time, roughly 10-12 hours per week.
Biz Social Media Links:
Solution(s) I Love (what you use in your biz, if you don’t mind divulging): I love Norvell. I have been using them since the very beginning. I love that their solution is universal which is great when you are mobile. Though after attending Sunless Summit, I am happy to say I am very excited to try a couple other fan favorites that were mentioned!
Tools of the Trade (equipment preference): I would be nowhere without my Maximist. It is hot pink and glittery and has been with me since the start of my business and has yet to let me down!
What I Wear (solution brand and % used to spray YOU): As a mom to an 18-month-old and newborn I have a new found love for rapids. I tend to stick with Venetian ONE from Norvell. It gives me time to rinse the bronze off and go about my day. So far it delivers the perfect year round color for me.
I chose to be an airbrush tanner because: I love the freedom it allows me. I can be a stay-at-home-mom AND business owner at the same time. I had never planned on doing this as my single income but once I started doing it on the side, I knew it was meant to be my career path. My clients are the best. It’s like meeting up with great friends and catching up all while giving them a safe way to be bronze. I truly love what I do.
If I weren't an airbrush tanner I would be: Owning my own wellness retreat
My most embarrassing moment as a business owner: Anytime I spill solution on my hands and don’t wash them fast enough! Nothing like showing up at a clients house with stained hands hoping they still trust you to tan them.
Favorite social media outlet: I love instagram. What a great way to showcase our talents.
The one thing I could not live without for my biz: I couldn’t live without my Google calendar. It is the true brains of my operation.
The part of owning my own business I am not very good at: Being a SAHM and business owner is hard. It’s hard to separate the two. At times you are a really good mom, but always thinking about the business and other times you are a great business owner but wondering if you are spending too much time constantly worrying about the business when you should be focusing on life around you. It’s a hard balance that I am still working on.
The one thing I wish I knew when I started my business: Competition is not something to fret over. There will always be competitors. All I can do is bring my A-game and focus on that! I am not them, and they are not me. Joining ASTP really brought that into light for me and I am so happy with the friends I have made in my NC Sunless Sisters. They are a huge asset in helping continue to grow as a Spray Tan Artist!
Where I plan to be in five years: I hope to have a great in-home or small studio space where I can incorporate my Esthetics services more. I would love to still have a mobile section but hopefully with an employee that helps with that.
Business owners who inspire me: I am in awe of a local favorite here in the Triangle area, Brenna Holt. I have always known about her studio and tans in this area and got the pleasure to meet her at Summit 2017. We even hung out after the Summit. She inspires me to do great things, not only with my business, but continuing to educate myself on all things sunless.
Quote I love: “Hustle till you no longer have to introduce yourself”
When I’m not working, I love to: Step away from technology. Even if for a few hours. It’s a nice way to recharge and reconnect. I love that feeling of complete freedom!
My favorite thing about owning my own business: Setting my own hours and answering only to me. I did the corporate and working for others gig. Working for me is where I am supposed to be.
The thing I dislike most about owning my own business: I have trouble turning it off. There isn’t a time when I don’t want to be doing something business related. It is something I still struggle with!
My friends would say I am: dedicated, spunky, organized and personable
If I could share some wisdom with someone just getting started in this biz it would be: If this is something you are truly passionate about, give it your all. Don’t see someone doing it on You Tube or in person and think--I could do that. It’s not a business for those that don’t truly have a passion for sunless!
Any parting words? Do what you love and you’ll never a problem with Mondays
